Indications
Dexgen (Dextromethorphan 5 mg & Chlorpheniramine 2 mg) Suspension is a decongestant, antihistamine, and cough suppressant combination. 
Dexgen (Dextromethorphan 5 mg & Chlorpheniramine 2 mg) Suspension offers relief from  symptoms of sinus congestion, runny nose, sneezing, and cough due to colds, upper respiratory infections, and allergies. 

Contraindications
• Allergy to any of its ingredients
• Severe high blood pressure, severe heart blood vessel disease, rapid heartbeat, or severe heart problems
• Inability to urinate or an asthma attack
• On sodium oxybate (GHB) or furazolidone or a monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor (eg, phenelzine) for the last 14 days

Precautions & Warnings 
Precautions need to be taken before prescribing Dexgen (Dextromethorphan 5 mg & Chlorpheniramine 2 mg) Suspension in following conditions:

• A fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat
• A history of adrenal gland problems  
• Heart problems or high blood pressure 
• Diabetes
• Stroke 
• Glaucoma 
• A blockage of bladder, stomach, or intestines; ulcers
• Trouble urinating 
• an enlarged prostate or other prostate problem
• Seizures
• An overactive thyroid
• A history of asthma, chronic cough, lung problems (eg, chronic bronchitis, emphysema), or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

Drug Interaction
Dexgen (Dextromethorphan 5 mg & Chlorpheniramine 2 mg) may interact with following medicines:
• Beta-blockers (eg, propranolol), catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) inhibitors (eg, tolcapone), furazolidone, indomethacin, MAO inhibitors (eg, phenelzine), sodium oxybate (GHB), or tricyclic antidepressants (eg, amitriptyline) because side effects of DEXGEN may be increased
• Digoxin or droxidopa because the risk of irregular heartbeat or heart attack may be increased
• Bromocriptine or hydantoins (eg, phenytoin) because side effects may be increased by DEXGEN (Dextromethorphan 10 mg & Chlorpheniramine 2 mg) Suspension
• Guanadrel, guanethidine, mecamylamine, methyldopa, or reserpine because effectiveness may be decreased by DEXGEN (Dextromethorphan 10 mg & Chlorpheniramine 2 mg). 

Dosage
Dexgen: 10 mL orally every 4 hours not to exceed 6 doses daily.
